CARBON KICKS OFF TONIGHT!
I'm on my way out to catch the first side event but I thought I'd better fill you all in as to what I will be up to over the next 5 days (as I know you have all probably been biting your nails with curiosity). Tonight RICKY POWELL is treating us to a slide show of his work at 1000 £ BEND (cinema) on Little Lonsdale Street in Melbourne City, which is going to be narrated by the man himself. Not a bad little Wednesday night if you ask me! Even if it is pissing it down outside.
Then tomorrow night at RTIST Gallery I'm going to this...
Yup, artist and one of the headline speakers at CARBON, Faith 47 along with husband DALeast have their own show happening. She is also an old friend of mine from Cape Town so I am extra excited. It's nice to have some ZEF around town for a change.
Then the weekend is CARBON itself? Don' t know what it is? WELL EDUCATE YOURSELF. Tickets are selling fast and I think the Sunday is almost sold out so get a hustle on yo!
Needless to say the booze is gonna be flowing but I REFUSE to sucked in. REFUSE! Last weekend I threw up all over my Versace (esque) shirt and let's just say it was a lesson learnt. So here's to a busy yet sober next few days.
And I'm off! x

ACCLAIM ISSUE#23 – NEW YORK CITY
I've taken my sweet ass time getting round to showing Acclaim some love but damn I've been snowed under, I am actually struggling to string words together. I'll tell you who ain't struggling with words, and thats the crew at this rag. Once again there are two covers, including a short run cover with one of New Yorks finest and oldest graffiti artists FUTURAstaring up at us from the news stands ...

PETRO
The 80's was such a good decade for art...PETRO is a fine example of this. Graffiti takes stamina, and fuck old mate must have it if he has been gunning for over 20 years.
In his new show 'TO BIG TO BE HUMAN', Petro has combined the traditions of graffiti lettering, the galactic funk, wonky pattern repetition, primitive drawings of fantasy characters and an unhealthy obsession with Ralph Lauren....um...hey? (By the way, I totally just copied that from the press release)
So the show opened in Sydney on the 22 October, and the Melbs show opens tomorrow (5 Nov) at the Backwoods Gallery in Collingwood. And the Perth show is ... wait hang on...no Perth show. Geez hey, that hardly ever happens! Not. So enjoy this amazing show you Eastern state spoilt brats.

Ironlak have released a Limited Edition Artist Series and my goodness they are sexy. For $7.50 a pop you can get your mits on MEKS Magic (formerly Granny), EWOK's Froggy (formerly Gangrene), WANYology Blood (new colour) and VANS Kryptonite. These lovelies are limited edition so they won't be sticking around for too long. Fuck I don't even paint and I just want the cans to put on my shelf. I'm such a poser.

MOTEL 7 – Artist
I am one lucky little Owlie, because I get to have Motel 7 design my banners. And let me tell you, she is one busy lass, so my appreciation is abundant. But then again, she is South African AND female so her multi tasking skills will be off the hizzay. How cute is my new banner?! And furthermore, how talented and amazoid is this chick?! She has been one of the best fem writers on the scene back in Rape Town for yonks, and now Europe get to have her. But this ain't no Australia claiming Kiwi people kinda type thing, Motel represents Africa in all she does...even if it is just the drinking. I kid....she represents Africa with her originality, her tenacity and strength during tough times and quirkiness. My favourite stuff are her girls...how fucking dope are they? I interviewed her a year ago here when she did my original banner (miss you!) and I thought we'd do a bit of catch up with Ms Motel, Hotel Holiday iiiiiiiiiiiiin! I've been travelling like crazy and painting a lot. I had some solo and group shows, and got up to all sorts of mischief around Europe. I also realized this year that I can't mix cava and beer.

In Europe you have this sort of attitude that's like 'meh', in South Africa it was as if everyone was more interested in everyone else, where as in Europe everyone is way too busy in their lives to give a flying fuck about yours. I like that.

Never stayed in a motel. I have stayed in some pretty interesting hostels...you really get to see some weird shit...

Not really, but I did go through a period in my life when I collected sugar packets from cafes and hotels. I liked that they were always different every where you went. I got bored of that, also what the fuck do you do with them?
